With this Lunule di Disgelo wallpaper I sign a fragment of geological time made living surface. It belongs to the genre of granite carved by meltwater, the rock that the subglacial torrents smoothed and hollowed over millennia, leaving the trace of their passage everywhere.

The design shows sichelwannen, the crescent-shaped flutes cut in series into the dome of polished granite: shallow little hollows, each with a clean lip downstream and a gently rising edge upstream, following one another diagonally like a single continuous gesture. The lunules vary in scale, from small arcs to wide curves, dense at the centre and sparser towards the polished intervals that let the eye rest. The silver grey and the pewter of the smoothed surfaces slip into the graphite of the cavities, where the shadow gathers, flecked with white glints of quartz and faint pinks of feldspar.

I do not tell of a landscape but of its origin: the slow, patient force of water that, unseen, shapes the hardest stone.
