Dorso Glaciale wallpaper comes from a block of granite that the ice shaped over millennia, giving us back its surface today as if it were still wet with thaw. It belongs to the genre of granite carved by meltwater, a matter that carries the slow and inexorable passage of the glaciers impressed upon it. The design shows a roche moutonnée, asymmetrical and frontal: on one side the slope inclines gently, its skin combed by fine parallel striations and polished grooves, the trace of glacial abrasion; on the other side the wall drops away in angular steps and broken blocks, plucked by the frost in remote ages, where the shadows grow denser and the planes separate along dark joints.

I like to think that every stone keeps a memory of movement, even when it appears still. In this granite the cold grey lights up with veins of pink feldspar, with sparks of quartz and black points of mica, while the oldest fractures take on an ochre worn by time. It is a matter that needs no ornament, because its story is already written in the grain.
