Grembo di Basalto

Grembo di Basalto wallpaper comes from a gesture of nature that I wanted to fix for ever: a basin hollowed out of the rock, smoothed by centuries of water falling and gathering. I belong to the materials family, and my surface tells of basalt carved by waterfalls, a stone that water has made concave, deep, almost liquid itself.

The design I bring onto the wall shows a natural pool cut into the monolith: the dark hollow opens in the lower part, while above it a projecting lip ripples into vertical flutes, like a row of stone columns guarding the rim. The blue-black and anthracite grey of the wet basalt lighten into shades of ash and pewter along the folds, with faint glints of ochre and bronze trapped in the porous rock.

Looking closely you find the minute marks of erosion: small craters, polished surfaces, parallel ridges along every flute, rounded by time. It is an image that speaks of patience, of slow transformation, of the beauty that comes from the resistance of matter to the passing years.

In my atelier I wanted to render this silent force with the same care I give to every project: the Grembo di Basalto wallpaper is conceived for large free walls, in any room and any light, where the hollowed stone becomes a sculptural presence and not simple decoration. Every run comes from a print faithful to the original, able to give back the authentic grain of the stone and its natural light, without repeats, like a single sculpture covering the wall.
