Nembi di Mercurio

I call this design the Nembi di Mercurio wallpaper, and every time I look at it I feel I have caught a cloud at the exact moment it turned to metal. In the Y2K Chrome style, the motif shows round, swollen clouds with mirrored surfaces that catch the light like liquid foil: concentric bands of reflection and clean specular stripes draw their volume, while flashes of pink, lilac and mint cross the silvery chrome. They float scattered, at different scales, on a flat continuous periwinkle blue ground that lets them breathe without ever crowding them, edge after edge, in a weave that closes on itself without a break.

It is a suspended, almost optical landscape: it does not claim to be a real sky, but its dreamed version, made glossy and playful like a pocket mirror from the two-thousands. I like to think of it as the mental space of someone growing up — a room that no longer needs toys to stay personal, but still wants surfaces that shine, that change colour depending on where you stop to look. It is a confident aesthetic, a little rebellious, able to hold a large free wall without asking permission.
