Onda Aurea

In the Onda Aurea wallpaper I find again the sure hand of Art Deco, the style that turned the sun into geometry and the sea into rhythm.

A solid disc of burnished gold rises just above the horizon, unfolding a symmetrical fan of triangular rays that alternate in width and reach, like an open shell filling the upper half of the scene. Below, the horizon breaks into rows of stylised waves, arched like crescents, each crest curling into a small volute, set in ranks that climb back towards the sun. Ochre, terracotta and cream cool the outer rays; petrol, jade and aquamarine animate the water, with flashes of silver on the crests.

I look at this dawn as an act of measure: solid and void balance one another, repetition becomes quiet rather than superfluous ornament. It is the idea, as universal as it is old, that every day carries with it a promise of order and light, given back here with the elegant economy of its period.
