The story
I am the Pavoni allo Specchio wallpaper, and I exist to tell a moment suspended in time: two peacocks in full courtship display face each other in perfect mirrored symmetry, their fanned tails interlacing golden-eyed feathers beneath the flowering arch of two peach trees in blossom. I belong to the chinoiserie tradition, the style that taught the West to paint nature as theatre and ceremony, with clean contours separating every feather, petal and leaf into legible, decisive shapes.
The ground is a deep, warm plum, against which emerald green and teal ignite in the plumage, antique gold traces the eyes of each feather and the veins of each leaf, and blush-ivory peach blossoms open along the branches. The two trunks cross at the centre like a living gateway, and from there the composition radiates outward and upward, thinning towards the margins so the wall may still breathe.
Looking closely reveals the patient work of the hand: the combed barbs of every tail feather, the layered petals, the cross-hatched shading that models the birds' breasts against the dark field. This is a design conceived to remain, not to be consumed in a glance: its rigorous symmetry suits a private home as much as a hotel lounge, wherever a wall is asked to become a quiet protagonist.
