Piega di Vento

I call this design the Piega di Vento wallpaper because that is exactly how each kite floating on it comes about: from a fold, from a clean crease traced in the paper, before the wind even picks it up. It belongs to the language of cut-paper carnival, a style that gives up gradations and soft shadows to rely on flat faces, thin white borders and small fold lines scored in a darker tone, as if each shape had been cut out with scissors and folded by hand a moment earlier.

What I see, looking at the wall: kites built from angular triangles, each a small cluster of faceted planes suggesting folded paper surfaces, with tails made of tiny triangular pennants sliding through the air. Cobalt, sun yellow, coral red, meadow green: five poster tones chasing one another at different scales and angles, scattered in a free rhythm that lets the ground breathe, never crowding it.

In its geometric simplicity I find something universal: the childhood gesture of folding, throwing, looking up.
