Ragnatela di Calce

I sign the Ragnatela di Calce wallpaper the way one signs a surface that has been lived rather than drawn: a skin of lime stucco smoothed with the trowel, worked to a mirror finish, then left free to tell its own time. This is polished Venetian stucco in its most authentic form, rendered here as fine-art photography of the real material: no repeating motif, no imposed focal point, only a single continuous field that fills the wall from edge to edge.

What you actually see: a crust of burnished lime, crossed by a fine net of shrinkage crazing, capillary and irregular, some cracks short and straight, others branching into wider clusters, dense in places and almost absent elsewhere, as lime really does when it dries and settles. The colour stays within a warm range — ivory, pale bone, greige — with glazes of ochre and honey where the trowel has pushed the surface to a deeper polish, and cooler, greyer passages where the plane remains matt.

This is not imperfection: it is measure. Every crack tells of a resolved tension, every smooth zone of a silence beside it. I wanted this wallpaper to bring into every interior — home, studio, hôtellerie — the same material calm, read from a distance as a luminous mass and close up as a minute weave of grooves and reflections.
