Staffetta Gialla

In the Staffetta Gialla wallpaper I wanted to hold the rhythm of a game that never stops, that of children running down a corridor counting their steps. The design belongs to the Bauhaus language, here handled in blocks: vertical bands of equal width descend in order from top to bottom, in a fixed sequence of sky blue, tomato red, sun yellow and ivory white, in flat tints, without shading. At regular intervals, yellow squares the same width as the stripes interrupt the run of the lines, each enclosed by a fine dark line that lights its outline.

It is a geometry that does not intimidate: it speaks to children with the clarity of primary colours and to adults with the discipline of design, the same discipline that a century ago taught how to build simple worlds from a few honest shapes. In a child's room, where the light is soft and the furniture stays low and light, this wallpaper becomes a wall that plays on its own, needing nothing else.
