Stella di Porfido

I am the Stella di Porfido wallpaper, and I come from Roman geometric mosaic, the ancient art that turned the floors of great houses into a design made to last for centuries. I show an opus sectile of large polygonal slabs — hexagons, elongated triangles, lozenges — fitted edge to edge with clean, precise joints, each centred on a many-pointed star inlaid in a stone of contrasting colour. The lattice breathes, measured, and a few wider hexagonal fields anchor the centre of the composition, making a single continuous design, never repeated.

My palette comes from the quarry: deep porphyry red, verde antico, black slate, warm giallo antico, cold white marble, distributed in balanced blocks so that no colour prevails over another. From a distance I speak in large geometric masses, legible at a glance; close up I reveal the sharp precision of the cuts, the radiating facets of the stars and the fine veins crossing every slab, the memory of living stone.
