Traforo di Jaipur

I call this the Traforo di Jaipur wallpaper thinking of the pierced stones that filter Indian light, letting it through only where the design allows. It belongs to the style of the Indian jali, the art of carved lattices that for centuries has divided spaces without closing them, turning the wall into a geometric, precious veil.

The design shows a dense honeycomb of tight hexagons, each enclosed by a fine double line: inside every cell opens a six-petalled rosette touching the six sides of its frame, a geometric flower repeated without pause, cell after cell, to the edges of the field.
