Vortice di Camaleonte

The Vortice di Camaleonte wallpaper brings home a fragment of nature observed with a naturalist’s precision and an artist’s sensibility. It belongs to the family of reptiles and amphibians, a world WallZad loves to render in the full truth of its forms and surfaces.

The design depicts the prehensile tail of a chameleon, wound in a tight spiral that narrows from the thicker base to the fine curled tip. The granular scales, small domes touching without a break, follow the logarithmic curve of the coil: from the bottle green of the outer turns it passes to moss and olive, and on to the cream and ivory at the heart of the spiral, with faint gleams of ochre where the light strokes the crests.

Looking at this image is an exercise in attention: every scale tells of a tiny variation in colour, in size, in sheen, and yet the whole composes a single centred medallion that fills the eye without leaving room for emptiness. It is the geometry nature chooses when it has to hold balance and energy in one continuous gesture.
