Alfabeto Ciclostilato

I conceived the Alfabeto Ciclostilato wallpaper as an archive of letters that multiply, a dense lattice of typewriter keys copied until they become landscape. Every key is a square with softened corners, a single letter or symbol at its centre, repeated row after row, column after column, with no gaps: mustard, cream white, anthracite and rust red alternate on a cream ground, in a rhythm that leaves no breathing space and asks for none.

It is the Xerox Zine style that governs this visual grammar: clean black outlines, flat fields of colour, no shadow to soften them, a slight stamped-ink mark that recalls the imperfect photocopy, the page made by hand at night before being run off in a hundred copies. It is the aesthetic of the fanzine, of the typewriter taken out of the office and given back to the room, where every letter is at once tool and ornament.

For someone living in a room that is already a language of its own — tidy but personal, adult without being cold — this design speaks of writing as a daily gesture and as a rite: the word before its meaning, the letter as pure graphic sign. There is no narrative, only cadence: that of an endless keyboard covering the wall the way a text that is never finished would.
