Rally di Senape

I look at the Rally di Senape wallpaper and recognise at once the gesture that drives it: two parallel lines chasing each other, opening into wide figures of eight, closing again, drawing an imaginary circuit on a mustard field. It is the Rally Speed Lines style, born from the spare handwriting of racing tracks, translated here into flat vector shapes, without shadow or perspective, made to run freely from one edge of the wall to the other.

The subject is as concrete as it is cheerful: tyre tracks braided into continuous loops, each track marked by a close weave of transverse notches, like a tread seen at close range. Where the paths cross, small burnt-orange dots mark the finishing line of each lap, while the anthracite grey of the lines cuts cleanly across the warm yellow of the ground. Nothing stops: the curves leave on one side and return on the other, in a motion with neither beginning nor end.

For a child’s room I wanted a design that can hold still across a whole wall and at the same time set itself in motion, without ever shouting: an invitation to play that stays elegant, a speed tamed by the measure of the line.
