Auriga del Fiume

I am the Auriga del Fiume wallpaper, and I come from a procession painted in the language of the Renaissance, when painting could make theatre of gods and of men in a single breath of light. At the centre of the scene a divine figure, barely veiled, stands upright on a low chariot with four wooden wheels, their spokes carved and their rims gilded, drawn by yoked white horses that advance in profile along the bank of a river in flower. Nymphs and winged putti walk at her side, carrying garlands, urns and a standard that swells in the air, while the water curving below them reflects the procession and a veiled hill closes the horizon.

I chose this subject because a mythological triumph tells not only of a victory but of the passage of life itself: a movement that does not stop, accompanied, sustained, celebrated. The scarlet and saffron flowers woven into the grass, the beaten gold of the harness, the azurite of the river: every colour is taken from the original painting and given back with the same luminous gravity.

In my pigment you can read the fine craquelure of old painting, the twisted gold thread in the hems of the garments, the modelled coats of the horses, the petals told one by one along the flowering band that gives the scene weight without crowding the sky.
