Fiume di Fuoco

I am the Fiume di Fuoco wallpaper, born of a night painted above the waters of a great river, where the sky opens into corollas of sparks and each bank becomes the silent auditorium of an ancient festival.

In my design the indigo darkness is not absence but keeping: it takes in the vermilion, the gold and the chrysanthemum white of the fireworks, and lets them burst into radial jets that look carved one by one, as the steady hand of ukiyo-e requires. Below, the river runs in blue-tinged greys veined like wood, carrying pleasure boats and amber lanterns that tremble among the crowd. On the banks a multitude of silhouettes in indigo and charcoal presses together, dotted with reds and mustards, mute witness to the spectacle and part of it at once.

There is, in this scene, a truth that belongs to no single time: the collective wonder before something that lasts an instant and is spent in the air. Every burst is birth and farewell at once, and the crowd that lifts its eyes is the same, today as then, looking to the sky for a pause from its own going. To bring this tension onto a wall means keeping a moment that would rather escape, fixing it without putting it out.

In defining the Fiume di Fuoco wallpaper, WallZad followed the discipline of the Japanese woodblock print, rendering its clean outlines and full areas of colour with a print that respects every fine line of spark, every kimono weave, every vein of water, for a room that welcomes with the same solemn quiet as the night it shows.
