Carosello di Carta

I call this design, made for the children's room, Carosello di Carta wallpaper: circus tents in alternating paper stripes chase one another as far as the eye can see, rounded domes and triangular pennants cut out as in a festival parade.

It belongs to the cut-paper carnival, a style that turns paper into flat overlapping silhouettes, without shadow or perspective, as though every tent had been cut out with scissors by joyful hands. Candyfloss red, buttery yellow, sky blue and cream alternate in a dense weave, where tents of different sizes fit edge to edge, so that the stripes carry on from one margin to the other without interruption. Only by looking closely does one find the scalloped border edging every base, a patient detail that rewards the attentive eye.
