The story
I draw the Parabole di Pastello wallpaper in the style I call Pastel Cosmos: five satellite dishes of different sizes, each a broad disc mounted on a pole or a tripod, with the small receiving horn suspended above the curve on fine stays. Some are tilted towards the sky, as if listening in different directions; the largest dominates the centre, flanked by two of middling size and two smaller ones at the edges.
The mark is the honest one of wax sliding over the sheet, catching on the small teeth of the paper, leaving waxy ridges and tiny gaps where the colour has not taken. A pale blue fills the belly of each disc, cobalt draws the outlines and the supports, midnight blue gathers only in the densest hatching of the largest dish and at the base of the pedestals. Dotted arcs link the dishes like radio waves in transit, while small pencilled stars and comets dot the free space around them, never crowding it.
There is, in this scene, the wonder of someone imagining they can listen to the universe from a small room: a quiet invitation to curiosity, suited to eyes that look far before they can even read a star map. In our atelier every shade of this Parabole di Pastello wallpaper is calibrated by hand, so that the child's room stays a place of measured wonder, where play and quiet share the same wall.
