Convergenza di Calacatta

The Convergenza di Calacatta wallpaper comes from a block of marble I wanted to tell as a single breath of stone, opened in four directions from its own centre. It is polished bookmatched veined marble, composed as a quadrimatch: four slabs joined two by two, the veins mirrored along the vertical and the horizontal seam, so that four independent courses converge and answer one another exactly at the heart of the panel, like a symmetrical form opening towards the four corners.

The warm ivory and pale grey ground takes in fine veins of ochre gold and carbon black, denser and more knotted here at the centre, sparser and more relaxed towards the margins, where the stone breathes in paler fields. Rust-coloured mineral deposits dot the surface, while at close range capillary veinlets appear, tiny crystalline flakes that gather the light and fine tonal bands, a memory of the rock's sedimentary layering.

I chose this design for its ability to stay monumental from a distance and minute close up, a single motif filling the wall without ever repeating. In any room — home, office or hospitality space — the Convergenza di Calacatta wallpaper settles like a whole slab, a luminous centre that organises the eye.
