The story
I call this surface Coppelle Solari wallpaper: it brings to a monumental scale a bank of sandstone hollowed by water, a family of tinajas, bowl-shaped basins of differing diameter, their rims scoured until they form rounded, projecting lips that curve towards the shadow. It is the river-scoured sandstone style, the one the rock carries written on itself after centuries of alternating flood and drought.
The largest basin, slightly off centre, dominates the composition; around it smaller basins follow one another, linked by fine dry runoff channels, while the bare stone breathes between one form and the next, letting the natural veining of the bank show through. From a distance it is one great carved gesture; close up it breaks down into bands of red oxide and umber, into pale cream on the lips where the light settles, into charcoal shadows gathering in the floor of each basin. Fine lines of cross-bedding, granular grain, dark traces of desert varnish: every detail tells of the time that hollowed the stone.
I did not want to tell of a landscape but of a slow gesture of nature, the same patience WallZad applies in printing and in the choice of materials to return every vein with museum fidelity. On a single large free wall, the Coppelle Solari wallpaper turns the room into a surface of living rock, suspended between geological rigour and luminous warmth, able to give breath to any room, wherever it is chosen to go.
