Corteo di Chiocciole wallpaper comes from a patient observation of the garden at dawn, when the dew reveals its minute, silent inhabitants. It belongs to the Fauna family, and here nature becomes precise drawing: small Cornu aspersum snails, each with its spiral shell marked by three or four whorls of ochre, sienna and cream bands, advancing with two pairs of tentacles stretched towards the open space around them.

I wanted every silhouette to stay flat, vector, without shadow, like a light engraving on a taupe ground: the forms follow one another at a fine scale, rotated and scaled in an apparently random order, never dense, always able to breathe. It is in this interval of emptiness between one shell and the next that the true subject of the design hides: not the accumulation, but the pause, the slow step of one who is in no hurry to cross the surface.

In the concentric striation of the shells and in the tiny dots that mark the edge of the foot I looked for the same care we give, in the atelier, to every single plate: the design repeats seamlessly, and Corteo di Chiocciole wallpaper lets the motifs run off and back in on all four sides, so that the eye never finds an edge, only a continuous fabric. It is a surface that does not impose, it accompanies: a quiet ground for calm interiors, domestic or formal, where natural light can find, each time, a new detail.
