Faglia d’Acciaio

Faglia d’Acciaio wallpaper comes from a way of thinking that knows no rest: that of the building site, the workshop, the structure that holds without ever showing itself tamed. I belong to the cutting language of Vorticism, the style that breaks the world into planes and wedges to give back its held energy, and in this image I depict a dense tangle of vertical steel uprights — rectangular columns and I-beams set shoulder to shoulder — crossed by oblique girders and bracing that cut them at sharp angles, fragmenting every surface into faceted planes.

At the centre the weave thickens, at the edges it thins, and the eye is led along a single diagonal thrust, as if the whole structure were caught at the instant of its greatest effort. The palette is that of the workshop: metal grey, iron black, rust ochre and cold steel blue, dotted with rare flashes of brass where the beams meet. Close up, the surface reveals cross-hatching, riveted seams along the edges of the girders, parallel lines that model every facet like worked metal caught against the light.

In every interior where it is hung — home, office or hospitality space — this wall becomes the load-bearing structure of the gaze, a presence at once calm and vibrant. It is a design made for the large free wall, the one that in every contemporary project waits for a decisive gesture.
