Faville d’Ottone

I call this design Faville d’Ottone wallpaper: it gathers, in a single geometric breath, the luminous energy of the Starburst/Atomic style, the mid-century sunburst aesthetic translated into a contemporary and restrained language.

The motif shows small, uniform sunbursts: a central disc from which an even number of fine tapered rays radiate, all of the same length, each marked down the middle by an outline that catches its profile. The sunbursts follow one another on a half-drop grid, where alternate columns shift by half a step, composing a dense, regular weave with no hierarchy and no pause. The warm brass discs and the deep teal rays rest on an ivory ground, in flat, clean areas of colour without gradation: a graphic vocabulary that repeats itself endlessly, edge on edge, without a break.

In drawing it I thought about how order can be a form of quiet: each sunburst is identical to the next, yet the offset makes them vibrate like a silent pulse, a rhythm that does not tire the eye but accompanies it. It is a geometry that does not impose but welcomes: as suited to a house as to a study, to a workplace as to a hospitality space, wherever natural light can meet a free wall and let it speak.
