Losanga d’Ambra

I sign the Losanga d’Ambra wallpaper as a tribute to the ancient craft of the goldsmith applied to a wall: a lattice of lozenges chasing one another from edge to edge, without pause and without centre, as if the whole room were wrapped in a single sheet of gilded glass.

Each facet carries a different colour — deep emerald, dusty petrol blue, terracotta, antique pink — in a measured cadence that never repeats itself identically, and yet obeys a rigorous geometry, that of Art Deco read in a Mediterranean key. At the intersections of the trellis, small rayed rosettes in cream and burnished gold hold the eye, anchor the rhythm, give breath between one lozenge and the next.

I drew on the technique of églomisé, the reverse gilding on glass that master decorators used to catch the light without ever letting it reflect: here that same promise lives in flat, frontal colour, with fine antique gold fillets that draw every edge and, inside the larger lozenges, interlace into a moiré weave that rewards those who come closer.

It is a design made to last in the eye: legible from a distance in its decided architecture, surprising close up in its goldsmith’s detail.
