The story
I call this surface Ferita d’Osso wallpaper: it looks like skin, taut and continuous, broken by a single tear that runs across it diagonally, decisive, almost violent in the gesture that produced it. It is the language of Gutai, the Japanese movement that made matter itself the subject: here the paste is thick, scratched, pressed as if it were fabric or paper pulled to its limit, and not colour imitating something else.
The design shows exactly this: a bone-coloured or muted ochre skin stretched over a deep void of charcoal or burnt earth, and right at the centre, slightly off axis, the two lips of the wound curl, lift from the plane and cast their own thin shadow into the darkness opening below. Around it the surface stays intact, breathes, lets the single gesture read from a distance as a sudden decision, with nothing else to distract the eye.
Close up the material goes on telling itself: the frayed fibres at the edges, the fine cracks in the dry paste, the shifts in tone that record the speed and the pressure of the original tear. This is painting lived as a body, not as illusion, and that is why Ferita d’Osso wallpaper asks for a large, free wall able to take it whole.
