The story
It comes from an ancient gesture, that of the brush dissolving cobalt on maiolica still warm: the Lustro di Pavone wallpaper turns into continuous decoration the enchantment of the ceramic workshops of the South, where the eye of the peacock feather becomes the pretext for a feast of controlled colour.
Each rosette is a small sun of glaze: teardrop petals arranged in concentric circles around a little central flower, while the metallic reflection of the lustre crosses the cobalt blue and the marine blue like light held in the glaze. There is no cold symmetry, but the living imperfection of the painting hand: a denser stroke here, a veil of saffron fading into ochre there, a touch of coral or terracotta to warm the rhythm, bottle-green leaves closing the design.
The rosettes fit together without a break, joined by tendrils, volutes and small citrus flowers that weave a geometric lattice with no pauses and no margins: from a distance it is cadence, close up it is a small story, made of fine sgraffito and little pools of glaze that time has not yet dried.
