Medaglione d’Alloro

I wear the geometry of memory: I am the Medaglione d’Alloro wallpaper, a cartouche that encloses silence within a circle of leaves. At the centre, a laurel wreath drawn in fine ink guards an oval reserve, empty and suspended, like a blazon that has given up its inscription to become pure symbol.

Around me opens a frame of acanthus and stylised pomegranate, bronze and antique gold chasing one another with the rigour of a historic fabric, a continuous border that never interrupts its own rhythm. The stone and oat ground receives every tone with the same measure: olive and bay in the leaves of the wreath, slate and charcoal in the shadows of the scroll, no gradient to distract the eye, only full grounds and clean outlines.

I am made for the eye that crosses a lobby and for the eye that lingers: from a distance I offer the stability of a monumental medallion, close up I reveal the veining of the leaves, the clusters of berries, the eyes of the acanthus incised one by one. Grandeur, here, becomes discretion.

In the WallZad workshop every cartouche is drawn with the same care with which stucco and boiserie were once carved, then rendered in sober tones, made to accompany the highest hospitality without ever raising its voice. Whoever installs me in a hotel foyer is not adding decoration: they are composing a welcome that lets itself be discovered slowly, as every Medaglione d’Alloro wallpaper knows how to do, one detail after another.
