The story
In the Quadranti d’Indaco wallpaper I find again the patient geometry of those who sew in order to think, one ring after another, until the whole surface is filled. The design starts from a small central square and expands in concentric bands of patches, exactly as in the Trip Around the World of old Amish quilts: a motionless journey that proceeds in circles, not in lines.
I like to think that every office needs an ordering principle of this kind: a centre from which everything starts, and a progression that reassures the eye while the mind works. Indigo, madder red, walnut, faded mustard and muslin-coloured mordoré alternate from ring to ring, creating a rhythm that pulses without ever raising its voice — the same measure we ask of a space given to concentration.
Close to, the weave reveals what no print should hide: the texture of the cotton, the small irregularities of hand cutting, the quilting stitches arching lightly over each patch. It is a design read from a distance as a quiet target and inhabited close to as an archive of minute gestures, of hours spent making one edge meet another.
