Sciame Lapideo

I sign the Sciame Lapideo wallpaper as a crossing: a field of stone fragments that moves, breathes, gathers. It belongs to terrazzo, the Venetian technique that binds offcuts of stone into a single surface, reinterpreted here not as a repeated pattern but as a continuous gradient: from the left, where a few polygonal shards float alone in space, towards the right, where the tesserae multiply, tighten and finally close edge to edge into a compact mosaic.

Every shard is a small autonomous world: triangles, blades, lozenges, irregular fragments, each filled with a flat, matt colour — cream, travertine, ochre, terracotta, dusty sage, charcoal grey, the odd accent of antique pink — and closed by a fine outline that never lets two tesserae overlap. It is a quarry watched while it works: the wide, sparse slabs on the left become, little by little, stone dust, minute and tight, on the right-hand side.

I like to think that this growing density tells the very time of the material — stone that shatters, gathers, and finds order only in the crowding. It is a cartography of becoming, suspended between void and fullness, between the isolated gesture and the collective weave. In any interior, from the home to the office to the hotel, the wall that chooses Sciame Lapideo becomes a surface for slow reading: from a distance a clean movement, close up an infinity of shards chiselled by hand, each different from the next. It is this attention to the single fragment, before the whole surface, that is the craftsman’s gesture WallZad brings to every one of its wallpapers.
