Sgommata di Grafite

I drew the Sgommata di Grafite wallpaper thinking of the exact moment when a wheel touches the asphalt and leaves behind it dust, noise, speed. It is a skate-deck screen print, the same graphic matrix that prints decks in neighbourhood workshops: clean circles with contrasting hubs, scattered speckling, fine scratches that imitate the rough grain of screen printing. On the wall you see wheels of different sizes rolling one over another, in a continuous crowd with no set direction, on a raw, speckled ground that continues beyond every edge.

The palette stays essential, almost like a tool shop: anthracite black, cement grey, a single bright deck red, on an off-white ground that lets the design breathe. There is no centre, no top or bottom: only movement that repeats itself, like rolling itself, indifferent to direction.

I am telling of a room that is growing up, the room of an adolescence that no longer wants toys but does not give up energy, rhythm, the street brought indoors. It is a simple gesture, almost plain, but conceived with the same craftsmanship we put into every WallZad surface: the grain is studied, the density of the dots calibrated by hand so that even a “waste” texture has structure and breathing space.

Hanging it on a single free wall, in a room with low furniture and natural light, means letting that surface speak for the young person who lives there: concrete, never childish, always in motion. The Sgommata di Grafite wallpaper does not furnish: it accompanies a growing up, a noise of wheels that stays, without getting in the way.
