Specchiature Veneziane

The Specchiature Veneziane wallpaper comes from a gesture as old as the city that gave it its name: the trowel that smooths, squares, restores order to matter. Here polished Venetian stucco spreads as a continuous field of hand-worked lime, divided by fine V-cut joints that break the surface into rectangular panels of ever-changing proportion — some tall and narrow, others wide and low — like a wall of squared ashlar, no one block the same as another.

In shade I stay faithful to the stone itself: ivory, soft greige, barely perceptible ochre, travertine cream, each panel with a shade of its own, like blocks cut from adjoining beds of the same quarry. It is a surface that breathes: matt in one place, polished in the next, marked by minute trowel striations and rare hairline crazing near the joints, an honest record of the handwork that made it.

In this design I look not for decoration but for architecture: the calm of a wall that does not tell a story but contains one, held between geometric rigour and material imperfection. It is an idea of elegance that needs no ornament to be recognised, suited to any room — domestic, professional, hospitality — that wants a surface at once alive and composed.
