Baraonda Squillante

I call this design Baraonda Squillante wallpaper: it fills the wall with ringing telephones, handset on its cradle, coiled cord and arcs of sound radiating all around, in a firm black outline that leaves no room for ambiguity. It belongs to the Halftone Riot style, the burst of halftone screens dear to pop graphics, here rendered as clouds of red and yellow dots that gather close to the cord and to the holes of the handset and thin out until they are mere sparks on a cream ground.

The telephones overlap, rotate and fall onto one another in a crowded scene with no hierarchy: no centre, no frame, only a continuous rhythm running from one edge of the wall to the other, like an engaged line that never stops ringing. It is the energy of those who communicate at every moment, the joyful urgency of adolescence made image: a room that talks, that vibrates, that is never truly silent.

For a teenager's room I wanted a clean graphic mark, able to hold the eye from close up and from far away, to remain present while asking for nothing more than a free wall and daylight. In this balance between drawn din and compositional order I recognise the WallZad craft: every Baraonda Squillante wallpaper comes from a print calibrated by hand, where the black stays firm and the colours dance, because even the youngest energy deserves the care of an Italian atelier.
