The Cavea di Travertino wallpaper is born of an ancient gesture: sitting in a circle to look at a world built expressly for the eye. Before me opens an elliptical auditorium of stone tiers, and beyond that patient curve unfolds a city that exists only in geometry — streets that narrow, portals marked out by columns, niches holding statues and urns, up to a point where all the lines give way and meet.

I like to think that this scene does not represent a place but a way of looking: perspective as an act of faith in order, symmetry as a promise of calm. The colour tells the same story by more discreet means — warm travertine, pale lime, muted ochre, umber shadows in the recesses, and here and there a bronze green that time has laid on the statues like a silent signature. Drawing near one finds the marks of the trade: the grain of the worked stone, the fine joints between balustrades, the clean cut of the acanthus in the capitals, chisel marks on the steps.

For a hotel lobby, for a reception that welcomes without ever raising its voice, I chose this architecture as a silent companion: a backdrop that gives depth without crowding the eye, that returns authority and warmth together.
