The story
Born of an ancient gesture, that of the chisel setting the rhythm of a pier, my Colonnato di Luce wallpaper tells of the fluting of stone reduced to pure graphic sign. I do not depict a column: I translate its essence into flat fields, vertical bands mirroring one another about a central axis, like the elevation of a classical frieze seen head-on, without shadow, without declared relief.
Each band alternates the cream of travertine with the deep brown of mocha and espresso, held by a grey-green or oxidised-metal thread marking its edge, as though the Mediterranean midday light had left its passage impressed on the worked surface. Towards the centre the tones concentrate, almost holding their breath; towards the margins they open, lighten, spread into sand and lime. It is a silent symphony of matter, not of image.
Close up, small combed and bush-hammered marks tell of the hand that works the stone; from a distance, everything becomes order, cadence, architectural breath. For a study or an office, where the mind looks for clarity and measure, this Colonnato di Luce wallpaper becomes a discreet and authoritative presence, able to give back concentration without ever shouting.
