Falcata Vermiglia

In my Falcata Vermiglia wallpaper I wanted to fix the moment in which the body becomes pure rhythm: a continuous frieze of marathon runners crosses the wall from left to right, the torsos and heads reduced to essential curved silhouettes, while the legs multiply in a tight sequence of strides that tell every step, from the push off the ground to the landing — knees driving forward, calves snapping back, feet flexed at the instant of contact.

It is second futurism that guides this composition, with its obsession for speed and for the dynamic breakdown of movement: the band of runners gathers into tight diagonal clusters, leaving only thin strips of ground and sky between one limb and the next, to build a cadence that advances rather than a naturalistic scene. Burnt ochre, brick red, ink black and cream are laid in flat, decided areas, while a single accent of cobalt runs through the fastest legs like a flash inside the rhythm — each colour its own area, never blended into its neighbour.

Close up the wallpaper reveals its most intimate graphic character: the seam of a pair of shorts, the sculpted sole of a shoe, a taut lace, fine speed lines scratched behind every ankle.
