Massa Sospesa

The Massa Sospesa wallpaper comes from an essential gesture: gathering rectangular volumes — long bars, overlapping slabs, thin ribbons and one dominant, massive block — and bringing them together into a single architectural mass that seems to float, just off the pure horizontal and vertical. It is the language of Suprematism that guides every choice: flat saturated grounds, edges clean as blades, no shadow to hold the form in real space.

At the centre of the composition the volumes gather, overlap, slide one behind another with slight shifts that leave them poised between front and back; towards the margins the density thins, letting small isolated rectangles and fine lines lose themselves in the field. The ground is a warm white, almost ivory, on which the red flares with force, the black cuts with decision, and an accent of ochre — or of grey, depending on the light — completes the balance. Close up, the surface reveals its truths: the corner joins sharp as cuts, the parallel ruling incised into some of the thinner bars, the grain varying, discreetly, within each field of pure colour.
