Rammendo di Terra

So it comes, from the very matter of painting, the Rammendo di Terra wallpaper: a surface that seems to have broken and then, with effort and patience, put itself back together. The language is that of Art Informel, which here appears in the first third of this story as pure gesture, material, with no figurative mediation.

What I see, what I set before the wall, is a field of pigment torn and reassembled: irregular fragments, wide and few at the centre, tightening into minute flakes towards the corners, joined by a dominant diagonal fracture that crosses the field like a primary scar. The edges touch or open, letting a darker ground show through; holding them together are thick sutures of impasto, ridges of colour dragged with the knife like raw stitches on a wound. The palette is earthy and raw — burnt earth, lamp black, chalk white, a single wound of blood red and a vein of ochre following the main tear.

Close up the surface tells more still: scraped layers, cracked skins of colour, scratches left in the fresh pigment, the coarse weave of the canvas surfacing where the tear is thinnest. It is a painting that does not hide its own history but shows it as a value.

In this gesture I find the principle that guides every WallZad work: the craftsmanship that makes a wound not a flaw but a finished form of beauty, worthy of any interior that chooses to speak of itself truthfully.
