Ordito Cartesiano

I sign this Ordito Cartesiano wallpaper as a design born from a gesture as old as handwriting: cross-hatching. Two families of fine lines, one horizontal and one vertical, intersect at right angles to build a dense weave of small square meshes: where the lines overlap the black thickens and breathes, where they thin out the paper returns white and silent. This is the visual grammar of technical drawing brought to the wall, a style of almost draughtsman-like rigour, in which every intersection counts like a note in a score.

There is no scene, no figure: only the structure, the rhythm of lines chasing one another from edge to edge without a break, as if the wall were itself a sheet of technical drawing paper enlarged endlessly. I wanted this wallpaper to return the same controlled tension found in a well-drawn project: no excess, no ornament, only the precision of a constant weight and of the grid repeating identical to itself.

For this reason Ordito Cartesiano lives well wherever there is a free wall to be filled with measure: in a house, a study, a hotel lobby, where daylight lights the design and lets it fade without ever tiring it. It is a black and white that does not shout but organises the space, gives it a cadence. In the WallZad workshop every line was calibrated by hand before becoming surface: the care needed so that a motif this spare stays, in the end, alive.
