The story
The Palmette di Verderame wallpaper comes from an ancient gesture: bundles of stylised papyrus, tied with a cord, opening into palmette crowns with the calm solemnity of grand entrances. It is a motif that does not seek immediate surprise but certainty: that of an ornament made to last, to be passed every day without ever being used up.
I imagined the reeds as silent columns, alternating with narrower bands of chevron fluting, in a vertical rhythm that measures the space with the precision of a Deco architecture read in a Mediterranean key. Oxidised bronze, deep verdigris, receives the antique gold line that draws its outlines and its bindings: a fine line that tells of the hand behind the drawing, while the ground alternates warm cream and emerald ebony, with accents of dusty petrol blue rippling the bronze shadow of the stems.
It is a pattern built for the eye that passes through and for the eye that stops: from a distance, the papyrus crowns measure the room with discreet authority; close to, the plaited cord and the fluting reveal the care of the detail. No centred motif, no empty margin: the bands continue beyond every edge, as if the architecture of the place had generated them.
