Pennellate di Terra

I sign the Pennellate di Terra wallpaper as one signs a gesture: quick, decisive, repeated until it becomes landscape. I belong to abstract expressionism, the movement that made the painted mark its own subject, and here that mark multiplies into an irregular grid of broad rectangular brushstrokes, each a slightly tapered bar with rounded corners, laid side by side in rows and columns that change width and inclination without ever letting the ground breathe.

The surface is dense, with no gaps: ochre, terracotta, charcoal and ivory alternate in a controlled but never mechanical sequence, like real brushstrokes left to dry on a studio wall. Every stroke carries, along one edge, a fine weave of parallel lines in a darker tone: a shadow which, seen close to, gives direction and substance, the memory of a brush that really did cross that surface.

In the design I read a balance between instinct and measure, the energy of the gesture held in a flat, vector field that repeats seamlessly on all four sides. It is a rhythm that tells not a story but a state: the concentration of making, freedom within a rule. For this reason Pennellate di Terra finds a home in any room — houses, offices, hospitality spaces — where a wall is needed that speaks with discreet presence.
