The story
I am born as a threshold, not as an image: the Portico Imperiale wallpaper tells of a museum that seems to have always stood there, with its dome and its portico of Corinthian columns carved in light. I am frontal, absolute, symmetrical: two wings of colonnade recede in measured cadence, column and void, column and void, while a stone stair climbs to meet whoever looks.
My stone is the true stone of travertine and ivory limestone, run through with grey-blue shadows between the fluted shafts and crowned by a verdigris patina that time has laid on the dome. At the base, a veil of ochre tells of the years, the gentle wear of stone exposed to the sun. From a distance I am an architectural gesture, monumental and quiet; close to I become detail — acanthus capitals, dentils and egg-and-dart under the cornice, the coffered ceiling glimpsed between the columns.
I imagine welcoming those who enter a hotel lobby, where the step slows and the eye finds room: not decoration, but a symbolic threshold towards a hospitality that speaks of order, measure, silent elegance. In that space, the Portico Imperiale wallpaper becomes suspended architecture, able to widen the wall into a timeless classical horizon.
Behind my surface lies the patient work of WallZad: the search for the right tone of stone, fidelity to every moulding, the Italian craft care that turns an image into matter to be lived in.
