The story
I was born on the wall as a low song: the Tortore di Maiolica wallpaper takes up the old gesture of southern ceramics, where the brush draws eight-pointed rosettes and weaves them with turtle doves perched on flowering acanthus branches.
Each rosette is for me a small domestic star, a fixed point around which the vine coils and the five-petalled flower opens, while the turtle dove — an old symbol of faithfulness and of coming home — stays still among the scrolls, as if time, for an instant, had gone quiet.
Cobalt and sea blue draw the outlines, saffron and ochre light the petals, coral and terracotta warm the bottle-green leaves, all held on a lime-white ground that lets the design breathe. It is the very irregularity of the brush, that small deliberate imperfection, that keeps every painted tile alive, whether the eye is near or far.
In the WallZad workshop, where every roll is made to measure for the room that will receive it, this motif was conceived to tile without visible seams, keeping the ornamental rhythm intact from one end of the wall to the other. To choose the Tortore di Maiolica wallpaper is to bring home a fragment of that Mediterranean craft wisdom that does not fear time, but keeps it company.
