The story
I imagined the Upupe Notturne wallpaper as a held breath in the quietest hour of the night, when the world settles and only light presences remain. The hoopoes, crests raised, alight among bare branches and barely sketched buds, while moths and dragonflies cross the space like thoughts brushing against sleep.
It is a drawing of rare naturalistic grace, of chinoiserie sensibility, in which every motif finds its place in a wide expanse of emptiness. That emptiness is not absence: it is the breath that makes the creature stand out, the silence that makes a wingbeat audible. The palette comes from the animals themselves — feathers of smoky teal and slate blue, chalk and soft taupe earths — touched by a single golden accent, measured like a reflection of the moon on a wing.
In its calmly, evenly distributed motif, the Upupe Notturne wallpaper speaks of lightness and transience: beauty that passes and moves us for that very reason.
