Trama del Favo

In the Trama del Favo wallpaper the design I chose to tell is a hive that changes under the eye: a lattice of hexagonal cells, the honeycomb style that has fascinated architects and craftsmen for centuries, reinterpreted here as pure progressive geometry. At one side of the panel the cells are large, sparse, few: they fill the space calmly, in shades of wax cream and pale amber. Cell after cell, the weave thickens, the hexagons shrink and multiply, until at the opposite end they compose a compact mosaic of deeper tones, toasted like dark caramel. A single brown line, constant in its weight, draws every cell wall, holding the whole composition together as an architect bee would.

I like to think of this motif as the visualisation of a growth: density increasing is time gathering, energy concentrating. It is a simple, almost mathematical idea, yet able to give back a deep sense of natural order, of measure that becomes beauty with no apparent effort.

To hang this wallpaper is to bring into a home, an office or a hospitality interior a graphic gesture that is decided but never loud, able to converse with a large free wall and its natural light.
