I am the Vertigine di Foschia wallpaper, born of a thought that rises vertically: that of the quartz sandstone pillars of Zhangjiajie, climbing through the mist that hangs after rain. I do not describe just any mountain, but a natural geometry made of sheer faces, vertical fissures, ledges of pine clinging to the rock and dark mineral traces drawn by centuries of water.

In my drawing the composition breathes: three or five spires dominate the foreground with photographic sharpness, while others, more numerous and paler, dissolve into the depth, leaving the eye clear paths between one pillar and the next. It is a measured density, never crowded, made for those who work better when the eye finds room to think.

The colour is the damp, composed colour of slate and charcoal, of the moss and pine clinging to the ledges, of the warm ochre surfacing in the exposed rock, all wrapped in a silvery white of vapour. It is a palette that does not ask for attention, it offers it discreetly, exactly as the wall of a studio should where productivity is calm and never loud.
