Vortice di Giunco

So it is born, from the patient repeated gesture of plaiting, the Vortice di Giunco wallpaper: a surface where strips of two alternating widths wind in a tight spiral around a square module that repeats, drawing a continuous fabric, seamless from one edge to the other. It is the basketweave style, the plaited interlace brought to its geometric essence: no real textile weave, but its constructive principle translated into flat fields, crisp outlines, a warp and a weft exchanging step — over, under, over — in a minimal dance of light and shadow.

I chose a palette of warm neutrals — straw, taupe, terracotta, soft ochre — because it speaks of material without needing to imitate it: the wallpaper dresses the wall as a hand-plaited mat would, but with the precision of a vector drawing, without smudges or gradients. The central square, repeated in a regular grid, is the fixed point around which everything turns: from there the eye is led in a circular movement that never runs out, because every tile continues invisibly into the next.

In this work I recognise a thought as old as the act of building: giving order to matter by plaiting it, until it becomes shelter. It is an idea suited to any interior, from the home to the studio to the hospitality space, wherever a wall asks for character and calm at once.
