Castelli d’Argilla

I am born as Castelli d’Argilla wallpaper, made to tell the youngest of the wonder of a distant landscape, the Alberta badlands, where towers of striped rock rise like fairy-tale spires above a river that runs slow and silver.

I am a canyon tamed for childhood: the same bands of ochre, rust and terracotta that in nature tell of millions of years of erosion here become the colour of a fairy tale, a place where every child can imagine castles carved by the wind and secret paths among the coulees. The Red Deer river draws its soft curve across the room, a gentle guide for the eye that rests first on the highest spires, then slides along the descending ridges towards the horizon, never crowding, leaving room for sky and rock.

Close up one finds the fine striations of the stone, the small cones of debris at the foot of the spires, the thin cracks in the parched walls: details that speak of patience and time, just like the craft attention with which every roll is made in the Italian WallZad workshops, where high-definition printing returns the same depth as a landscape photograph.
