Ventagli di Maggiolino

I drew the Ventagli di Maggiolino wallpaper watching the light breath that comes before summer, when the first cockchafers emerge from the warm earth and settle, silent, on leaves still damp with dew.

The design belongs to the great family of Fauna, and takes up its most minute expression: small Melolontha melolontha beetles, each with a rounded head, lamellate antennae open like a fan and an oval elytron crossed by fine parallel grooves, six thread-like legs gathered beneath the body. The silhouettes are flat, vectorial, without shadow, outlined by a crisp sepia line that draws the profile with the precision of an old entomological plate. The motifs, tiny, scatter in a free, sparse weave, turned at different angles, as if a breath of air had just set them on the wall.

The palette is warm and earthy: chestnut brown and burnt umber for the elytra, on a soft parchment ground that lets every figure breathe. It is a drawing that does not impose but accompanies: a living dust suspended in the natural light of any interior, from the home to the workplace to the most refined hospitality spaces.
